To celebrate Black Awareness Day, November 20th, the Tiresias group – Interdisciplinary Center for Studies in Gender, Sexual Diversity and Human Rights – holds the 1st Film Showcase. The action takes place between the 5th and 7th of November, at 6:30 pm, in Auditorium D of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA).
With the theme of Race, Gender and Sexuality, the exhibition aims to debate issues relating to sexual, gender and racial diversity. This edition seeks to add to the reflections on discussions about racial relations and other social dynamics existing in Brazilian society. At the end of each screening, there will be a debate with the guests present. The event is free.
The films to be shown on these days were selected from Cine(Teca) Tirésias, an extension project that, in addition to showing films and debates monthly at UFRN, carries out surveys on film productions relevant to discussions of gender and sexual issues in different social spheres.
The program is made up of the following screenings: on the 5th, Paris is Burning (1990), directed by Jennie Livingston; 6th, Pariah (2011), directed by Dee Rees; and, finally, on the 7th, the film Untied Tongues (1990), directed by Marlon T. Riggs.
