Teia-Brasil shows session on female resistance in the dictatorship

On May 29th, the Teia-Brasil Session will be held, a new project for the exhibition and discussion of contemporary Brazilian feature films and short films from Rio Grande do Norte. In this edition, two documentaries will be shown about the memories of the Military Dictatorship in Brazil (1964-85): the feature film “Torre das Donzelas” (2018) and the short film “Codinome Breno” (2018). After the last session, there will be a debate with the presence of the invited directors.
Still unreleased in Natal, the award-winning film Torre das Donzelas, directed by Susanna Lira, addresses the memory and resistance of women who were imprisoned during the military dictatorship in a set of women's cells at the Tiradentes Prison, in São Paulo. The short film Codinome Breno, directed by Manoel Batista, deals with the director's family memory through the search for the story of his father's political activism during the Military Dictatorship in Brazil.
The event will take place at the Teatro de Cultura Popular Chico Daniel, in two sessions: at 4:30 pm and 7 pm, the latter being followed by a debate with the directors. Advance tickets are on sale via the website sympla.com.br/teiabrasil or on the day of the event, at the theater box office.
The Sessão Teia-Brasil project has institutional support from the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Fundação José Augusto and Teatro de Cultura Popular Chico Daniel, through the Pauta Livre TCP 2019 notice, and with cultural support from the Núcleo de Arte e Cultura (NAC/UFRN), Cooperativa Cultural, Cinemateca Potiguar (IFRN) and the mandate of councilor Divaneide Basílio (PT).
