The Department of Communication (Decom) promotes Communication Week 2020 between March 9th and 13th, with the theme Women, Media and Resistance: Contemporary interdisciplinary discussions. The purpose of the event is to discuss and reflect on the role of women in communication and society.
According to professor Marcela Costa da Cunha Chacel, the choice of theme not only highlights the celebration of March 8th – International Women's Day, but also facts that mark this month of the year, such as the murders of Rio councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, which occurred on March 14, 2018.
The event will consist of workshops, lectures, round tables and short courses. On the 9th, in the afternoon, the round table on Women in Audiovisual and Journalism will take place. In the evening, the event's official opening lecture takes place, with the presence of the Paraíba cast of the film Bacurau, one of the award-winning productions at the Cannes Festival in 2020.
On the 10th, in the afternoon, professor Aline Lucena, from Decom, talks about the Democratization of Media in Latin America. On the 11th, at night, Ariana Siqueira, from the Law course (UFRN), presents the theme of Women and violence in cyberspace. On the 12th and 13th, three round tables will take place: Female Entrepreneurship: the challenges and perspectives of those seeking to make a difference, Marielle present! 730 days without justice! and Women in Photography.
