Researchers from the Multirrisco Project, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN (CCHLA), launched another article in an international magazine on disaster risk indicators.
Professor Lutiane Almeida, from UFRN, together with post-doctoral student Leila Sousa (UFABC) and professor Andreza dos Santos Loureiro (UEMA), signed the work focusing on the micro-local scale based on the Brazilian reality. The article proposal is the result of Andreza's doctoral thesis, carried out in the Postgraduate Program in Geography, under the guidance of Almeida.
The publication in the journal International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction reflects that Disaster risk studies at the microlocal level allow for an in-depth analysis of vulnerable communities, integrating environmental and social aspects to support the implementation of specific public policies.
The results showed that the assignment of categories, indicators and variables in Risk analyzes at a micro-local level effectively identifies whether the area is more precarious in terms of Structure or Physical-Natural Elements and contributes to the creation of public policies to prevent and/or mitigate disasters.
