Georisk project is approved by CNPq and Capes

The project “Improvement of local management of environmental-urban risks for multi-risk scenarios in the face of the climate emergency: innovative instruments and social participation”, by the Georisco research group, from the Geography course at UFRN, was approved in notices from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and by Capes.
At CNPq, the project was approved in Call 59/2022 and the investment is R$502 thousand, including capital resources, funding and research grants. At Capes, he was approved in Notice 15/2022 and was awarded 3 post-doctoral scholarships, 2 for master's degrees and 1 for doctorate and R$50,000 for funding.
Its objective is to develop innovative methodologies for reviewing and improving consolidated diagnostic instruments on a detailed scale and local management of risks and disasters in the face of climate change with a focus on socio-environmental vulnerability, multi-risk scenarios and social participation.
Georisk is coordinated by professor Lutiane Almeida, from the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Disasters (Nuped), and, to carry out the project, formed a partnership with the Risk Management Laboratory of the Federal University of ABC (Labgris/UFABC) and the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden).
The group works in research, teaching and extension on topics such as disaster risk indicators, mapping and modeling of disaster risk and extension actions in disaster risk reduction (DRR). Georisco has members from UFRN itself and other Brazilian universities, such as the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) and the State University of Ceará (UECE).
