Latin America in Cinema Project screens film on June 6th

The Latin America in Cinema extension project, promoted by the Social Sciences department at UFRN, will show, on June 6th, the film IXCANUL in the auditorium of the Zila Mamede Central Library, at 6:45 pm. Entry to the event is free. The production is from 2015 and was directed by Jayro Bustamante.
The film tells the story of Maria, a 17-year-old girl who lives on the slopes of an active volcano in Guatemala and has an arranged marriage waiting for her. Although she dreams of visiting the city, her status as an indigenous woman does not allow her to go to this ‘modern world’. Later, Maria becomes pregnant and a complication causes the girl to be saved precisely by this modern world.
The Latin America in Cinema project has existed since 2012 and aims to promote the debate on Latinity through the screening of films. In addition to the production on the 6th, the short film from Rio Grande do Sul will also be shown, by director Henrique Arruda.
