This Thursday, April 11th, the launch of the book Simbolismo do Morro do Careca will take place, at Galeria Fernando Chiriboga – Midway Mall, at 5pm. The academic production is the result of research by professor Lore Fortes, professor at the Department of Social Sciences (CISO), at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), together with doctoral student Tiago Souto Bezerra, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences (PPGCS) at UFRN.
The initiative aims to rescue the memory of the main tourist spot in the City of Natal, showing how residents feel the symbolic power of the Morro's image and how important it is to them. The investigation, in addition to natives of the city, also included people who migrated to the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, coming from the interior of the state – as well as from other states in Brazil and other countries. According to Lore Fortes, methodologically, the work related for the first time Pierre Bourdieu's theory and the Collective Subject Discourse Methodology, created by Lefevre & Lefevre (2005).
According to Tiago Souto, the symbolism of Morro do Careca identified, in the research, references to the past, present and future of the city. The landscape, which is seen as a tourist attraction and a postcard, is also part of the memory of the city of Natal, as it brings out joyful and effusive memories of childhood times. The book also highlights concerns about the future based on the idea of environmental preservation.
