On November 26, 2021, at 4 pm, the Conference “Durkheim and the democratic experience: between a communication regarding values and a secular form of the sacred” will be held at the Brazilian Center for Durkheimian Studies (PPGS UFRGS). The broadcast will be promoted by the channel ‘IFCHdaUFRGS’, on YouTube.
On the occasion, professor Dr. Carlos Eduardo Freitas (PPGCS UFRN) will revisit Émile Durkheim's Bordeaux political manuscripts – in particular, the Lessons of Civic Moral (1899-1900) – and develop a reconstructive examination of a model of deliberative democracy outlined by the French sociologist.
The objective is, in light of the demands of contemporary social theory, to explore the potential for updating the Durkheimian concept of democracy as a referential framework for interpreting the dilemmas of democracy today.
