The Postgraduate Program in Philosophy (PPGFIL) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) announces the launch of the e-book Neoplatonism: Mysticism and Politics. The work, organized by professor Oscar Federico Bauchwitz, aims to contribute to the consolidation of Neoplatonic studies in Brazil and strengthen academic relationships with researchers who participated in the 4th Ibero-American Seminar on Neoplatonic Studies (Siaen), held at the University Campus.
The work provides an opportunity to delve deeper into two fundamental aspects of Neoplatonism: Mysticism and Politics. Although these themes are not traditionally considered close or related, the work demonstrates how the articulation between them and the conceptions of Neoplatonic authors and their contemporary reception reveal proximity.
The works gathered in this e-book aim to analyze, expose and problematize the themes and renowned authors in the history of Neoplatonism, such as Plotinus, Proclus, Eriúgena, Ibn Gabirol, Marguerite Porete, Pedro Olivi, Mestre Eckhart, Nicolau de Cusa, Sufismo and Giordano Bruno. Furthermore, contemporary authors who found Neoplatonism a valuable source of dialogue are also explored, such as Simone Weil, Sartre, Guimarães Rosa and John Caputo. The studies carried out shed light on how Mysticism and Politics develop in the works of these different authors.
With this publication, professor Oscar Federico Bauchwitz expands the debate and reflection on Neoplatonism, providing an important academic resource for students, researchers and those interested in the subject. Furthermore, the e-book strengthens exchanges between Brazilian and foreign academics, enriching discussions and promoting the advancement of Neoplatonic studies in the country.
