With the support of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the Pierre Verger 2024 Prize will take place from the 18th to the 23rd of July at the UFMG Campus, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This year, the event promotes the 15th edition in the Film category, the 12th edition of Photo Essay and the 2nd edition in the Drawing category.
Coordinated by UFRN professor Lisabete Coradini, the event features the participation of figures such as Ailton Krenak, writer and indigenous leader, Olinda Tupinambá, indigenous artist and filmmaker, Faye Ginsburg, anthropologist from NYU, and Isabel Noronha, Mozambican filmmaker, who will bring perspectives in masterful conferences.
The program includes round tables with experts discussing “Aesthetic insurgencies based on dialogues between photography, drawing and art”, as well as a conversation with Peggy Vail, an anthropologist at NYU, and interactive sessions with film directors, photographers and drawing artists.
During the 34th Brazilian Anthropology Meeting, it will be possible to participate in symposiums and workshops with artists and academics exploring new horizons and techniques in visual anthropology.
