The Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology (PPGAS/UFRN) received, at the Pierre Verger Award ceremony, through doctoral student Ester Corrêa and master's student Pablo Pinheiro, awards in the “drawings” and “photographic essays” categories. Arthur Costa Novo and Pietra Azevedo were also recognized in the Anthropology and Human Rights awards, and Heloísa Torres, respectively. The events are part of the organization of the 33rd Brazilian Anthropology Meeting, which took place on August 28th in Curitiba/PR.
Ester Corrêa, professor Elisete Schwade's doctoral advisor, received an honorable mention for her work “Taquara de Tabajaras: constructions and reconstructions”, developed in co-authorship with Andrey Moraes (UFPB), in the “drawing” category. Pablo Pinheiro, a master's student supervised by Professor Lisabete Coradini, won first place in the “photographic essays” category with the work “OUR LOVED ONE: new links and spaces”.
The program's graduate, Arthur Costa Novo, also received an honorable mention in the Anthropology and Human Rights Award, Doctorate category, for the article: “Families out of the closet: Emotions and political mobilization in an association of mothers and fathers of LGBT children”. The text is an excerpt from the doctoral thesis defended by Arthur, under the guidance of professor Carlos Guilherme Octaviano do Valle, in 2021.
Pietra Azevedo, a doctoral student under the guidance of professor Angela Facundo, was also awarded first place in the Heloísa Alberto Torres Award, with the article “I'm tired of the mapôa line, today I like to draw attention, to be a transvestite”: Social visibilities and transvestites in rural and interior contexts”.
