Pink October

With the aim of encouraging the population's participation in the control of breast cancer, the movement known as Pink October was born in the USA, in the 90s. Since then, the date has been celebrated annually by promoting activities that help share information about the disease and promote awareness about its prevention and early detection.
During the entire month of October, the Municipal Health Department of Natal will carry out a series of activities in health units with an emphasis on warning, prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
The Reviver Natal group is also promoting mammogram exams in the four regions of the city, through several mobile units that are circulating in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, aimed at Pink October.
 
Breast Cancer
It is caused by the multiplication of abnormal breast cells, which form a tumor. There are several types of breast cancer. Some types develop quickly while others are slower.
Age is one of the most important risk factors for the disease (around four in five cases occur after the age of 50).
According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), around 30% of breast cancer cases can be avoided by adopting healthy habits such as: practicing regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet, maintaining adequate body weight, avoiding alcohol consumption, and, after pregnancy, breastfeeding.
The main signs and symptoms of breast cancer are: fixed, hardened and generally painless lump (nodule), red breast skin, retracted or similar to an orange peel, changes in the nipple, small nodules in the region under the arms (armpits) or in the neck and spontaneous discharge of liquid from the nipples
It is essential that women observe their breasts whenever they feel comfortable doing so (whether in the shower, when changing clothes or in another everyday situation), without a specific technique, valuing the casual discovery of small breast changes.
It is also recommended that women between 50 and 69 years of age undergo a screening mammogram every two years (when there are no signs or symptoms). To help with prevention.
