In a ceremony held this Wednesday, 14th, in the auditorium of Instituto Ágora, the new Director and the new Deputy Director of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) officially assumed their positions. The event was attended by the acting Rector, Henio Miranda, who highlighted the strategic importance of this unit for the institution.
During his speech, the Rector congratulated the previous management, led by professor Maria das Graças Rodrigues, and expressed his gratitude for the contributions made. Then, addressing the new Director, Josenildo Soares Bezerra, and the new Deputy Director, Candida Maria Bezerra Dantas, highlighting the relevance of the work to be developed by them.
“You assume the task of leading the administration of this unit that is so strategic for UFRN, for building knowledge in areas fundamental to human and social development”, stated the acting Rector.
The Rector also highlighted that CCHLA celebrates its 50th anniversary and expressed confidence in the new Management's ability to achieve the established objectives. “I am sure that, together, we will achieve the objectives set and, more than that, we will make a difference in the socioeconomic development of our state and our country”, he stated.
Josenildo Soares Bezerra, the new Director of CCHLA, expressed gratitude for the period in which he was Deputy Director and reiterated his commitment to working for the advancement of the Center and for a “public, free, secular and quality university”.
Maria das Graças Rodrigues, who is now Director of the UFRN Publishing House, also spoke during the ceremony, mentioning some of the achievements of her administration. She cited the creation of the Humanitas Institute, the reforms to the Center's infrastructure, the increase in the number of scholarships for courses at the Ágora Institute, among other initiatives. The former director made a point of thanking the then Deputy Director, Josenildo Bezerra, for the partnership and recognized the work of the entire Center team.
With the new CCHLA Board taking office, it is expected that the unit will continue to play a prominent role in the academic and social development of UFRN, contributing to the training of qualified professionals and the advancement of knowledge in the areas of human sciences, letters and arts.
