International Literacy Day brings together researchers at UFRN

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) promotes, on the 14th and 15th of May, in the Rectory auditorium, the 5th International Literacy Day.  The event has existed for 15 years and has been held in different locations in Brazil, such as at UFRN itself and at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), in Florianópolis, in addition to the Portuguese University of Minho (UMinho), in Braga, and the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL). Over this time, the event has established itself as a qualified space for discussing the topic of reading and writing development.
The objective of the International Literacy Day is to contribute to the discussion about the challenges facing the training of literacy teachers in an increasingly graphocentric society, where it is necessary to train people capable of developing reading and writing as a way of acquiring knowledge, developing their own potential and actively participating in 21st century society.
The event will open with the international conference L’Apprentissage de La Lecture: De La Recherche à L’Application, with French educator Jean Émile Gombert, specialist in educational and developmental psychology, and coordinated by educator João Batista de Oliveira.
The program also includes round tables, short courses and workshops taught by national and international experts in the field of reading and writing, poster sessions and symposiums to present research summaries, reports, studies and experiences of those registered. The abstracts presented by participants will be published digitally in a Book of Abstracts, with ISBN (International Standard Book Number).
Places are limited and the registration deadline is May 1st. Access the event's website.
