IV Latin American Ethnographic Film Festival receives registrations

Registration for the IV Latin American Ethnographic Film Exhibition is open until July 17th. The event is an initiative of the Visual Anthropology Center (Navis) in partnership with the Department of Anthropology (DAN) and the Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology (PPGAS) whose purpose is to showcase works of academic relevance that address sociocultural realities, having as a guiding thread topics that dialogue with sociological, anthropological and ethnographic interests.
The program is completely free and will take place from September 9th to 13th in person, with live broadcast of the debates on the Navis YouTube channel. Both researchers and undergraduate or postgraduate students can register via a Google form. In addition, participation certificates will be awarded to the selected films. Activities include panel debates between directors, mediators and the participating public. More details can be found in the notice.
The festival also has support from the Norte-Rio-Grandense Research and Culture Foundation (Funpec); the Visual Anthropology Committee of the Brazilian Anthropology Association (ABA); the Department of Social Sciences; the Social Sciences and Anthropology Teaching, Research and Extension Laboratory (LABEPECS); da Margem Hub – Visual Culture Space, from Círculo da Imagem; from the Visual Anthropology, Arts, Ethnographies and Documentaries research group at the Federal University of Paraíba (AVAEDOC – UPFB); the Laboratory of Memories and Everyday Practices of the State University of Vale do Acaraú (Labome – UVA); and the Visagem Group of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).
Gilmar Santana, coordinator of the Exhibition, vice-coordinator of Navis and professor at the Department of Social Sciences (DCS), highlights the team's objective, which aims to reach the widest diversity of audiences, not just the academic community. “Due to the hybrid nature of the meetings, we break down spatial barriers and enable interaction and access for all people”, he adds. The teacher also highlights the intention to establish bridges with other areas of knowledge based on the themes proposed by the films and their systematization divided into each day of the event.
