Latin American Ritual Theater Exchange begins with the ideal: “Art is our way of doing science”

In an atmosphere of connection with the elements of nature, especially the earth, students, teachers and managers linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN participated in the opening, on April 27th, in the morning, of the “Latin American Ritual Theater Exchange”, a promotion of the arts department, with various supports and continuous programming until this Saturday, when it ends with the ritual “Ether Process”, under the auspices of Arkhétypos – Theater Group, coordinated by creator of the event, professor Dr. Robson Haderchpek. This final event will be at DEART at 7pm.
In the opening ritual, in addition to the dance in praise of the land, the speeches were harmonious in the same direction and energy, all very positive. The deputy head of CCHLA, professor Sebastião Faustino revealed that the spirit of human sciences is reflected in cultural actions, in addition to commenting that art is the humanities area's way of doing science, and after congratulating the initiative, he heard from the NAC manager, Teodora Alves, revealing a feeling of pride in the approval of UFRN's culture plan, which demonstrates the affection that the entity lends to the artistic sector. Afterwards, the arts department, through professor Olavo Bessa, reaffirmed its commitment to various events, praising them and stating that this institutional support was “the path to building content that should be shared by everyone”.
Then it was the turn of the guests for the opening, the Argentine researchers, Prof. Patricia Bélières and Prof. Alejandro Cancela, both from the Escuela de Interpretación Bélières-Cancela. Very comfortable in front of a friendly and welcoming audience, they spoke about their experiences, which can be seen in this interview.
1.         What would Ritual Theater be?
It is a ceremony of interaction with others through ritual that will awaken what is unique and authentic in each person.
2.         How important is Ritual Theater in the contemporary scene?
The importance is that we take theater out of this everyday and familiar thing and transform it into a collective and social ceremony through the rescue of its rituality.
3.         How important is this exchange for you?
We have the chance to learn about what is happening here in relation to theatrical expression and pass on to you what we know. This exchange of knowledge with others is very exciting. You have a very strong and visible identity that is closely related to nature and observing your body expression is wonderful. We hope to learn a lot at this event.
The event coordinator, Prof. Dr. Robson Haderchpek spoke about the same at the opportunity.
This meeting is essential for us to understand the direction of Teatro Ritual in Latin America. From this exchange we will understand how other researchers from Latin America who work with this topic in the areas of performing arts, dance, theater and music, see the potential of methodological experiments and develop creation procedures based on the four elements of earth, water, fire and air that configure Ritual Theater.
It will offer a series of lectures and practical workshops developed by professors: Particia Béliéres and Alejandro Cancela from Escuela de Interpretación Bélières – Cancela, Lara Rodrigues Machado from UFBA, Luciana Lyra from UERJ and Robson Haderchpek from UFRR. In addition to round tables and shows of the creative processes developed in the workshop. All activities are open to the public.
Our objective is to rescue the genuine knowledge lost during colonization. So we try to inspire this knowledge through this ritual and meeting with others to build this knowledge. This exchange of knowledge is our strong point.
