The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) promoted, on the night of last Monday, 26th, in the Ágora auditorium, the official launch of the Humanitas Institute (IH), a Specialized Academic Unit linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), created by Resolution 4/2019 of the University Council, of April 3, 2019. According to the director of Humanitas, Alípio de Sousa Filho, among the objectives of IH is the promotion and strengthening of the vision of Humanities in society, production of research and analytical treatment of social problems and phenomena, as well as intervention projects.
At the launch ceremony, the rector of UFRN, José Daniel Diniz Melo, stated that “the specialized academic unit emerges as the crowning achievement of a growing effort to participate by our community in the context of discussions that are taking place in society, a consequence of the historical moment we are living in. I am certain that the creation of the Instituto Humanitas corresponds to the civic stance encouraged by the institution since its inception”.
