Social Research Group holds extension course

The UFRN Social Research Group (GPS-UFRN), between August 23rd and September 13th, promotes the extension course Public Sphere: Revisions and developments of a concept of discursive democracy. The extension course will be taught by Professor Dr. Carlos Eduardo Freitas (DCS/PPGCS/UFRN) who is also coordinator and by Andressa Morais (PPGAS/UnB). The program takes place in the auditorium of the Central Library (BCZM), with free entry and registration available through SIGAA.
The event promises to revisit the writings of Jürgen Habermas, Nancy Fraser and Axel Honneth that deal particularly with the issue of the public sphere and examine the main theoretical controversies surrounding its definition and its varied forms of institutional expression. The course schedule provides for four thematic seminars on the following dates:
Seminar 1 – Habermas and the theory of the public sphere – August 23, 2019 (3:30 pm to 6 pm);
Seminar 2 – Criticism and revisions of the concept of public sphere in Habermas – August 30 (3:30 pm to 6 pm);
Seminar 3 – Nancy Fraser and the Subaltern Public Sphere – September 6, 2019 (3:30pm to 6pm);
Seminar 4 – Axel Honneth and the Sphere of Formation of Democratic Will as an Institution of Freedom – September 13, 2019 (3:30 pm to 6 pm);
