Ancient History Study Group promotes course on Marvel’s work

The Postgraduate Program in History (PPGH) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) holds, in the auditorium of the Zila Mamede library (BCZM), the extension course “The Moon Knight and its multiple facets: dialogues between pop culture and Egyptology”. The event is scheduled to take place in six meetings, starting from May 30th to June 15th, from 3pm to 6pm. The activity is developed by the MAAT Study Group (Ancient History Study Center), under the guidance of Professor Márcia Severina Vasques, from the History Department (Dehis). Registration will soon be open via SIGAA.
The extension course aims to analyze Moon Knight (2022), a Marvel and Disney series that tells the story of Steven Grant, a museum store employee tormented by memory lapses and suffering from dissociative identity disorder. The series demonstrates a broad construction of ideals about Ancient Egypt both in the setting and in the script itself, which will be useful in analyzing the project.
The course's proposal, in this sense, is to create a bridge between the knowledge developed in academia and pop culture, with exhibitions on the themes covered in the series and debates with Egyptologists. The activity will be carried out in six classes, divided into three parts: projection of the episode for in-person participants, presentation on a topic relating to the series and Ancient Egypt, and debate with an expert on a specific topic.
The course will also be broadcast on the MAAT study group's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/maatufrn), from 4pm to 6pm, excluding the first part of the class (in which the episode of the series will be shown) for copyright reasons.
