Georisco and Nuped will coordinate the municipal risk reduction plan for Natal

The Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Disasters (NUPED) and the Georisk Research Group, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA/UFRN) took over the coordination of the Natal Municipal Risk Reduction Plan.
 
The Ministry of Cities, through the Department of Risk Mitigation and Prevention, of the National Secretariat of Peripheries, developed, in partnership with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, the Multicenter Action Research and Innovation Project for the development of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Plans.
 
This project seeks the support of the most renowned public universities and experts in Brazil to generate scientific evidence and theoretical references for evaluating, reviewing and improving public policies in the area of ​​disaster risk management.
 
“In the national context, 16 research groups from public universities in Brazil were selected, with outstanding knowledge and evident skills for preparing plans in 20 municipalities with large populations living in communities exposed to disasters”, explained professor Lutiane Almeida, coordinator of NUPED and Georisco.
