The Georisco research group, part of the Interdisciplinary Center for Disaster Research (Nuped/UFRN), has formalized a protocol of intentions for technical-scientific cooperation with the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden), to carry out research, teaching and extension activities on the theme “Disaster risk reduction”.
The signing of this protocol is an initial stage of future agreements between the two institutions and it is intended that there will be positive impacts on the training of human resources, improvement of the body of researchers, and mainly, the contribution to strengthening the culture of disaster prevention in our society.
The protocol of intentions was signed by the Rector of UFRN, professor José Daniel Diniz Melo and by the director of Cemaden, prof. Osvaldo Luiz Leal de Moraes, and published in the Official Gazette of the Union no. 226, of December 2, 2022. This protocol was established through a partnership between professor Lutiane Queiroz de Almeida, coordinator of Georisco and Nuped, and the Cemaden researcher, doctor Silvia Midori Saito.
Nuped is a nucleus created in accordance with the provisions of article 11 of the Statute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), with the objective of carrying out teaching, research and extension in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction (RRD). Furthermore, Georisco has members from UFRN itself, as well as from other Brazilian universities.
