The opening of the Vth International Meeting on Participation, Democracy and Public Policies (PPP) was held on the evening of Tuesday, April 26, and included a conference by professor and researcher from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO – Mexico), Gisela Zaremberg. The virtual event continues until April 29th, with the aim of continuing academic efforts aimed at consolidating the field of studies on political participation in various forms, as well as on public policies and the deepening of democracy.
The local coordinator of the meeting and professor at the Department of Public Policy at UFRN, Lindijane Almeida, thanked those who contributed to the event, which is taking place for the first time in the Northeast of the country. The director of the Center for Human Science, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), Maria das Graças Rodrigues, highlighted the importance of discussing topics related to public policies, such as associations; protests; and social, criminal, institutional and electoral movements.
The rector of UFRN, José Daniel Diniz Melo, highlighted how the meeting demonstrates maturity and public commitment when discussing political participation, highlighting pressing issues of public policies and the deepening of democracy. The manager also highlighted how the initiative enables debate between researchers from different regions of Brazil and the world, providing space for dialogue between scholars, members of civil society and government agents.
