The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in compliance with the agreements established in assemblies with the institution's students, pays special food allowance to in-person undergraduate and postgraduate students on the central campus who have free access to meals served in the biomedical area cafeteria and in the University Restaurant (RU), whose operation is suspended for renovation. The payments of some beneficiaries have already been settled, while the others are pending bank clearing and must be credited by Wednesday, 10th.
According to the deputy dean of Student Affairs, José Pereira de Melo, the process began on June 28, with the payment request being sent to the Ministry of Education (MEC). The request was committed since the 1st, within the normal payment deadlines. "Everything happened with respect to the legal and bureaucratic process, which required a task force from the social assistance sector and the Information Technology Superintendence to register students in a timely manner. He further explained that, after registration, the process goes through approval, ordering of expenses, and is then sent for bank payment. "This process took place within normality, with the amounts being transferred between the 5th and 10th of July", he concluded.
The operation of the RU has been suspended since July 1st for reform to adapt accessibility and restructure production spaces. Activities are expected to resume within 90 days, during which time UFRN offers special food assistance to students who are entitled to free food at the restaurant. However, in the month of July, only those who declared having activities during the academic recess period receive the full amount. The rest will receive 1/3 of the amount for one week of classes scheduled for the month of July.
