UFRN students protest against PL 490 in defense of indigenous rights

On July 5th, students from the Theater Degree course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) held a demonstration in the annex of the Department of Arts (Deart). The protest took place during the Corporal Practices III curricular component class, taught by professor Juma Pariri, and aimed to take a stance against the Proposed Law (PL/490), which proposes changes to regulations related to indigenous lands.
PL 490 has generated controversy as it seeks to implement new rules that could intensify the exploitation of these lands, to the detriment of the rights of indigenous peoples and the environment. According to Professor Pariri, for approximately a month now, several universities across Brazil have been speaking out against the approval of this proposal, and UFRN should not be left out of this movement.
