Department of Modern Languages and Literatures holds Ciné-Club Lumière

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literature (DLLEM/UFRN) is holding, on October 25th and November 22nd, the Ciné-club Lumière 2022. The activity is aimed at promoting the French language and disseminating Francophone culture through cinematographic productions (films, documentaries and animations) made in or about French-speaking countries around the world. The event takes place at Instituto Ágora from 2pm. Registration is carried out by Sigaa.
The cinematographic works will be presented in two sessions. The first takes place on the 25th, with the film Intouchables (Untouchables), by French directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. The second session takes place on November 22nd, with the animation Un beau matin (A Beautiful Morning), a short film by Serge Avédikian.
The films are shown in French, with subtitles in Portuguese, and shortly afterwards a debate takes place in Portuguese. The event provides the improvement of oral comprehension in French in a playful way and reflection on the arts and social themes, in addition to the discovery of films and knowledge about the history of cinema.
The project aims both to improve knowledge of the language among students on the Literature – French course and to provide an opportunity for an open reflection on the diversity and cultural references typical of Francophone countries for the society of Rio Grande do Norte. The films show that there is an opportunity to talk about topics such as the integration of people with disabilities and immigration, in addition to talking about dystopia in fiction, but also about political dogmatism, fascism and state propaganda.
