UFRN Journalism Department launches third edition of Revista Tabu

   This Thursday, December 6th, from 1pm to 5pm, at Amphitheater I of the Department of Social Communication at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Decom/UFRN), the launch of the third edition of TABU Magazine. Developed by students from the Journalism Course, the publication seeks to be a space in which the defense of democracy and collective interests is the main topic of discussion and focus of the journalistic approach. As an editorial principle, TABU seeks to fight for the expansion of voices from historically silenced social classes and is willing to offer greater openness to debates that escape the conventional perspective of traditional information vehicles.
   To mark the launch of the edition, the magazine's development team, under the guidance of Decom/UFRN's PhD professor, Janaina Barcelos, will promote a round table that will address violence against women, LGBT+ causes and the indigenous peoples of Rio Grande do Norte, topics covered in this issue of the magazine.
   Invited to the debate are the pedagogue, specialist in Higher Education Teaching, Udymar Pessoa Dantas Cardoso, who will speak about “Feminism, pioneering and protagonism in RN”; the activist for the LGBT+ cause, Ysmael Rabino Morocco Ventura Sousa, active in the Kizomba Collective and coordinator of the fight against racism at DCE/UFRN; and the Potiguara chief of the Catu community, José Luiz Soares – Luiz Catu -, professor of Ethno-History at municipal schools João Lino da Silva, in Canguaretama, and Alfredo Lima, in Goianinha, leader of the fight for the creation of the first indigenous school in RN and for compliance with the specific curriculum.
   The event is open to the public. Anyone wishing to participate must register on the UFRN online platform SIGAA. The activity is registered in the Extension Projects field. Participation is free and there are limited places.
