The Department of History (Dehis), of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), will hold the Quilombo School – Cultivated Education event on the 29th, at 3pm, in Auditorium B of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA).
The event consists of the screening of the documentary Escola Quilombo: Educação Cultivada, which addresses daily pedagogical work and teaching work in a small school in the Quilombola Kalunga do Mimoso community, in Arraias, Tocantins (TO). Afterwards, directors Evandro Medeiros and Alexandra Duarte gave a talk on the topic. A space for debate will be opened for public participation. Before showing the film, there will be a presentation about its context and the topic covered.
The event's target audience is students studying History and related courses and the university community in general. Registration is carried out via the Integrated Academic Activities Management System (Sigaa), which can be accessed via this link.
Quilombo School: Cultivated Education
The film brings narratives and images about personal life and the challenges of being a teacher in rural schools, facing material precariousness and neglect from public authorities. The documentary emerged as a follow-up to the first film released in 2013 about the Quilombo School, which focused on giving a voice to teachers from peasant and quilombola communities.
