The Department of History, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), screens, this Friday, the 14th, at 2:30 pm, the film Mossane, by director Safi Faye, in Auditorium D of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA).
The screening of the film is part of the Cinema Cycle: fragments of a greater meaning – Films from Africa and the Diaspora, on a monthly basis, which aims to provide and foster the experience of cinematographic productions by black directors. According to the organization, the productions should be seen as a form of resistance and alternative and rely on an unprecedented linguistic approach, which can allow for renewed perspectives on Africa, the diaspora and blackness.
Before the films are shown, a presentation takes place contextualizing the themes, the directors, the work's production spaces and the protagonists. All films are subtitled in Portuguese. Other information can be obtained by emailing the coordinator:guerralocal@gmail.com.
Synopsis of the film Mossane
Released in 1996, the film Mossane tells the story of a fourteen-year-old girl who lives in a village in Senegal. She is in love with Fara, a poor student, who has returned to the village while the university is on strike. At birth, she had been promised in marriage to Diogoye, who left to work in France. Diogoye, who provided her parents with many things over the years, has already sent her a dowry, and asked her to be married to him in the village, even in his absence, and then be sent to France.
