The Department of Social Communication (Decom) at UFRN has been holding the seminar History of Brazilian Journalism: Studies, Research and Presentations – from the 19th to the 21st Century, since the 9th of this month, with the closing scheduled to take place this Friday, 30th, starting at 6:40 pm in the Auditorium of the Communication Laboratory (Labcom).
The seminar involves students of the History and Legislation of Journalism course, taught by Journalism course professor Francisco de Assis Duarte Guimarães, project coordinator. The seminar was divided into eight themes with contextual subthemes.
Some of these themes were: The press of the Second Reign and the Abolition and Republic campaigns; The process of consolidation of the Brazilian press; The 1964 Military Dictatorship and Brazilian journalism; and Redemocratization and trends in journalism in Brazil.
Students also participate as questioners, simulating collective interviews, producing news and photographs, simulating journalistic and photojournalistic coverage, all integrated into the simulation of teaching activity, that is, carrying out research, studies and public presentations.
Some of the project's objectives are to bring to the general public the results of didactic-pedagogical activities of studies and research on the topic; learn about the process of formation and consolidation of Brazilian journalism; and correlate multidisciplinary academic and teaching principles with the professional activities of journalists.
