Decom promotes seminar on the conditions of northeastern audiovisual

Northeastern audiovisual is of great importance for the visibility of the region and helps to build new social representations. However, professionals who work outside the Rio-São Paulo axis face many challenges in making their productions in this area viable. To discuss these setbacks, the Department of Communication (Decom/UFRN) promotes the seminar Conditions of northeastern audiovisual: Productive materiality and poetic matter. The activity, open to the public, takes place on the 3rd, 18th, 24th, 25th and 31st of October on the Decom channel on YouTube.
Organized by the Media Studies and Analysis and Research Group on Culture, Processes and Media Products (Gemini/UFRN) and coordinated by Professor Sebastião Albano, the event seeks to discuss, in a didactic way, the material conditions of audiovisual production in the Northeast. Other themes that permeate the debate are logistics and public policies to promote the sector in the region and technological transformations that favor the production, distribution and exhibition of northeastern creations.
Important audiovisual directors, critics and researchers in the field come together to reflect on topics ranging from pre- and post-production practices to figurative and aesthetic instances of audiovisual. Documentary filmmaker Vladimir Carvalho, writer Maria do Rosário Caetano, director and producer Wigna Ribeiro and professors from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) Marcelo Ikeda and Beatriz Furtado will participate in the seminar.
According to Sebastião Albano, professor at Decom, the seminar will be a welcoming space for professionals and students in the area to feel motivated to produce in the local scene. "There will be a dialogue about the possibilities of northeastern audiovisual and how it is inserted in Brazil today. The very issue of these professionals and artists sharing similar thoughts about the production and exhibition of products created here means that initiatives like this reproduce empathy between them all", he explains.
In relation to northeastern productions, the professor talks about his expectations regarding the new generation of professionals that is consolidating in the region and the creation of public policies focused on culture. "A cinema is being made that addresses slightly more deep-rooted themes, themes that concern dreams, emotions and minorities. A new cinema is being made. Furthermore, cultural incentives for technical professionals and artists are becoming increasingly common in many states in the Northeast", he adds.
