Deart performs theater play about pandemic, denialism and fake news

The Department of Arts (Deart) at UFRN will hold from May 25th to 27th, at 7pm, at the Jesiel Figueiredo Theater, the V PALAVRAR: A PESTE (Cycle of Dramatic Readings). The free event offers the public theater plays that address issues related to the pandemic, delving deeper into causes and consequences. Free tickets will be distributed each night at the door of the Teatro do Deart, starting at 6:30 pm.
The event presents the scenic reading of theatrical texts that address the perplexity of human beings faced with a pandemic scenario, expressing feelings of impotence, lack of control, loss and mourning. The cycle also intends to debate topics involving the plague of ignorance, denialism, fake news, the spread of slander and political blindness. Above all, provoking reflection on the scope of the subject based on the pieces read, by authors such as Alfred Jarry, Matei Visniec and Luís Alberto de Abreu.
One of the cycle's proposals is to bring Arts students and teachers closer to the city's theater class. As every year, Palavrar welcomes external theater groups. This year, the groups Shakespeare Clowns, Facetas and Asavessa are participating, as well as actors belonging to other theater collectives, such as Estação and Atores à Deriva. The Teia extension project and the Todas as Letras teaching project also participate in Palavrar, which will welcome the public at the entrance to the Theater with small performative interventions of texts relating to the theme of the plague, in a broad sense.
Conceived and coordinated by professor André Carrico, the extension project involves students from the Theater Degree course performing sound design and lighting, in addition to executive production and organization of social networks. Another V Palavrar action involves Design course students, coordinated by professor Elizabeth Romani, who create the event's visual identity (poster, cards, printed program) for each edition.
