Book plot
The plot centers on the character Eurídice Gusmão, a woman with many ambitions and talents who is limited by the social role given to her: taking care of the house, her children and her husband. We follow her successive attempts to overcome this invisibility, while other characters linked to her are introduced to us, including Guida Gusmão, her older sister who disappeared from home without leaving any news. In a captivating narrative, set in Rio de Janeiro in the 1940s and full of humor and irony, Martha Batalha reveals the forces behind machismo and patriarchy, bringing to light the lives of women who have been marginalized by history and literature.
