Last Friday, December 18, the University Council (Consuni) of UFRN approved the proposal to create the Design Department (DDgn), by splitting up the Arts Department (Deart). In this way, the unit will start to host and manage the undergraduate course in Design and will be linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA).
According to the Design Department's Creation Project, the DDgn aims to develop actions that promote constant improvement in the quality of undergraduate teaching processes, including students in scientific research and extension activities; the consolidation of design culture linked to the principles that guide the field, such as sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship; strengthening partnerships between departments and educational institutions; postgraduate higher education in the area of Design; among other objectives.
The creation of the Department of Design has among its justifications the differences between the undergraduate courses of the Department of Arts, with the Design course being the only bachelor's degree at Deart, as the other courses are Degrees in Visual Arts, Dance and Theater. Thus, through the separation of Deart, the DDgn training will include professors from the home department, as well as professors from the Department of Textile Engineering and a technical-administrative team.
