The Teaching, Research and Extension Council (Consepe-UFRN) approved this Tuesday afternoon, February 2nd, the proposal to create an interdisciplinary bachelor's degree course in Humanities, in person. The degree will be linked to the Humanitas Institute of Integrated Studies (IH) of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA).
The course will be the first interdisciplinary bachelor's degree (BI) in the humanities area at UFRN, being created with the objective of training a professional “able to work in interdisciplinary teams in the areas of research, consultancy, planning, intervention projects”, capable of proposing and managing methodologies, data, analysis and social technologies, in an efficient and creative way, based on their humanistic and scientific training as an interdisciplinary generalist professional, according to the Pedagogical Project of the Course.
BI graduates in Humanities will have the ability to develop theoretical and applied research activities, in an academic manner or linked to demands from the State or business management and civil society entities. In this way, the director of CCHLA, Maria das Graças Soares Rodrigues, highlighted the innovative nature of the course, which will enable the opportunity for higher education training, as well as continued qualification in postgraduate studies. From the same perspective, the director of IH, Prof. Alípio de Sousa Filho, reinforced that the course was built based on contemporary concepts, aiming to train professionals with expertise to meet the current demands of society.
"The bachelor's degree was created attentive to the global historical-social moment that demands professionals with a comprehensive view of problems in the social, cultural, political, ecological and ethical dimensions. Graduates of this new course will have the expertise of a scientist in the humanities, with training in analyzing current social reality and prospective analyzes of social scenarios and with skills that will make them an agent of interdisciplinary conduct in team work in public or private organizations", comments the professor.
With an initial offer of 50 places, the course will have activities on the Central Campus and will have the structure of IH and CCHLA, such as a Sector Library, computer laboratory, classrooms, among other facilities. The bachelor's degree will have eight permanent professors from the Humanitas Institute, in addition to the collaboration of professors from other academic units.
