Every day the concern of the inhabitants of planet Earth increases regarding the growing consumption of available raw materials, provoking reflections and concrete measures to minimize uses and enhance reuse and sustainable use of existing resources.
In this sense, the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN and CREDSUPER thought about reducing the use of the well-known “disposable cups”, and launched this Monday, the 22nd, the “Adopt your cup” campaign.
According to the director of CCHLA, professor Maria das Graças Soares Rodrigues, “the intention is to reduce environmental degradation and increase the supply of mineral water in the Center and in sector II, since CCHLA uses around 30 thousand disposable cups in a month, with each one taking at least 450 years to decompose”.
For the director, the financial issue is also important and the action will mean a reduction in the 7 thousand reais per month for the purchase of disposable cups, “this resource can be used to expand the supply of mineral water”.
To make the intention of the CCHLA and CREDSUPER managers successful, cups were delivered to technicians and teachers, with delivery continuing until August 26th in places such as the CCHLA Community Room, DECOM/LABCOM and DEART.
The measure pleased teachers and employees who are already getting their permanent cups, as reported by administrative technician Karla Oliveira, "with this campaign, we participate directly in the CCHLA's economy, in addition to strengthening the fight for a better society with an impact on everyone's quality of life. Preserving nature is an emergency, it is super necessary, and for us employees, it is very practical to have a cup to use and not need to bring it from home or spend several cups every day."
The deputy director of CCHLA, professor Sebastião Faustino Pereira Filho took advantage of the campaign launch ceremony to announce new actions in this area, such as the collection of air conditioning water, which can be used in the Center's gardens and in Florestatinha; An energy efficiency analysis was also requested from a junior engineering company to standardize the general use of lighting in the CCHLA area, focusing on more natural use of energy.
The ceremony that announced the campaign was also attended by the manager of the UFRN Campus agency of CREDSUPER Anacelly de Paula, who highlighted the importance of the action in terms of the need to act concretely in the face of the needs that arise in our activities, and said that it is the Cooperative's intention to expand the delivery of personalized cups by the company in other sectors and centers of UFRN.
