The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), through the Ágora Institute, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), in partnership with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), held on Monday night (6), the inaugural class of the first Mandarin Course offered to students at the university.
The opening ceremony was attended by the secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil for Brazil-China Educational Cooperation, Wang Zhiwei. Also present were the UFRN Secretary of International Relations, Márcio Venício Barbosa, representing the rector, as well as the acting director of CCHLA, professor Josenildo Bezerra and the UFRN professors, Nan Qi and Izabel Nascimento, coordinators of the Mandarin course.
"The Mandarin course is a 14-week pilot project. Professor Baí Ye, who is doing her doctorate at the Southern China Normal University, will teach classes online via the Tencent platform for two classes with students from UFRN. We are grateful for the commitment of Professor Nan Qi and Professor Márcio Venício in carrying out what we hope will be just the first of many Chinese language and culture courses", explained Professor Izabel Nascimento, who is also deputy director of the Ágora Institute.
