The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literature (DLLEM), through the UFRN Comics Club, “Sociedade Secreta das Sarjetas”, promotes reading and debate of the work “Cidade”, by Juan Giménez and Ricardo Barreiro. The meeting takes place on November 24th, at 5 pm, at Mahalila Café e Livros. Participants will receive a 3-hour certificate.
The plot, originally published in the 80s, arrived in Brazil in 2022 by the publisher Comix Zone. Juan Giménez creates, in the story, a delirium populated by impossible men, literary characters and legendary monsters. A famous artist from “A Casta dos Metabarões”, he illustrates Ricardo Barreiro's script, full of homages to cinema, literature and comics.
Even seeking to fuel the discussions in a light way, the Secret Society of Gutters raises thought-provoking perspectives that can illuminate the specificities of the comic textual genre. Furthermore, readers' imagination will be worked beyond the meaning established in the story's vignettes, aiming to develop participants' interpretative skills.
Coordinated by professor Katia Aily Franco Camargo, the DLLEM project aims to promote debate and interest in comic books, focusing on great representative works of this genre. Check out the Club's Instagram (@sarjetas.club) to see more events and activities.
