Director of the Martin Heidegger Institute presents the current international scenario of Heideggerian studies and discusses contemporary issues at UFRN
On the 22nd and 23rd of November, the Heidegger Event Cycle: Technique, Capital and Media will take place at UFRN, with the presence of the German philosopher Peter Trawny, director of the Martin Heidegger Institute (Wuppertal) and Prof. Ciro Marcondes Filho, from ECA -USP. The event, promoted by the PPGCS, PPGEM and PPgPsi Postgraduate Programs, offers students in the Humanities area, especially communication and sociology, the opportunity to update themselves with the current panorama of Heideggerian studies, worldwide.
Martin Heidegger (1889 – 1976) is the most prominent German philosopher in the area of Humanities in the 21st century. XX, having influenced French postmodernism from the 60s onwards (Deleuze, Sartre, Derrida, etc.), also impacting other areas of knowledge, such as psychoanalysis (Lacan) and social and communication studies, especially due to its considerations on modernity and technique.
On the 22nd, Trawny and Marcondes Filho discuss the topic “Técnica. Capital. Medium”. In the chat, Marcondes Filho will present a critical view of the topic, which is the title of the book published by Trawny in 2015, questioning the author about the main points covered in the book and which are relevant for a reflection on contemporary times.
On Wednesday, the 23rd, Trawny will give the conference “Heirs of Heidegger”, in which he will present his reflection on the future of Heideggerian studies, especially after the publication of the volumes entitled “Black Notebooks”, which reveal anti-Semitic statements by the German philosopher at the time of World War II, expressed in the midst of philosophical reflections.
The program includes a mini-course “Introduction to Heidegger's philosophy for media studies”, taught by journalist and researcher Soraya Guimarães Hoepfner. This short course is aimed at researchers who are interested in familiarizing themselves with or applying the fundamentals of Heidegger's philosophy in their research projects at all levels, from undergraduate scientific initiation to postdoctoral studies.

About the participants:
Peter Trawny is professor of philosophy at the University of Wuppertal (Germany) and editor of seven volumes of Heidegger's Complete Works to date, that is, responsible for the treatment of the manuscripts bequeathed by the author and their original publication in German. Trawny is the author of eight books, two of them translated into Portuguese “Adyton: The esoteric philosophy of Heidegger” (2013) and “Heidegger and the myth of the world Jewish revolution” (2015). His authorial work, including the recent “Technik.Kapital.Medium” (2015) has also been translated into several languages.
Ciro Marcondes Filho is a CNPq concept 1A researcher and creator of the New Communication Theory, which provides the basis for the constitution of the Field of Communication in the human sciences based on the maturation and operationalization of the concept of communication, as well as a specific way of investigating it, the metapore. Bachelor in Social Sciences and Journalism (USP/SP), PhD from the University of Frankfurt, post-doctorate from the University of Grenoble (France), holder of the UNESCO José Reis Chair in Scientific Dissemination, he is a full professor at ECA-USP since 1987. He has worked as a lecturer across the country and abroad, producing more than 45 books in the areas of communication, journalism, politics, philosophy, psychoanalysis.
Soraya Guimarães Hoepfner is a journalist and researcher in the field of media philosophy. With a PhD in philosophy from UFRN, she has lived in Berlin since 2009, where she works as a translator, having translated books such as “A Comunidade Inoperada”, by Jean-Luc Nancy, to be published soon in Brazil. Furthermore, Soraya participates in interdisciplinary projects in contemporary art, with the most recent work “Desvios”, collaboration with Laercio Redondo, on display at MAM-RJ (2016) and currently on display at Dallas Contemporary (USA).
