In an extraordinary meeting held this Monday morning (18), the Design Department (DDgn) was officially installed at the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA). The new structure was separated from the Department of Arts (DEART).
The meeting, which took place virtually, was chaired by the acting director of CCHLA, Josenildo Bezerra, who wished the new department success, “making the CCHLA structure and technical team available for the necessary steps to begin the work of the DDgn”. Professor Graça Soares, head director of CCHLA, on vacation, also highlighted the work of the committee of teachers responsible for the creation process. “Congratulations for the work and great willingness of the team that led this process and which adds to the quality of teaching at UFRN”.
The Head of the Design Department will initially be assumed by Professor Marcos Andruchak, who according to UFRN regulations will be responsible for organizing the election of head and deputy head. The physical structure of the DDgn will remain in the DEART building.
According to the Design Department's Creation Project, the DDgn aims to develop actions that promote constant improvement in the quality of undergraduate teaching processes, including students in scientific research and extension activities; the consolidation of design culture linked to the principles that guide the field, such as sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship; strengthening partnerships between departments and educational institutions; postgraduate higher education in the area of Design; among other objectives.
The creation of the Department of Design has among its justifications the differences between the undergraduate courses of the Department of Arts, with the Design course being the only bachelor's degree at Deart, as the other courses are Degrees in Visual Arts, Dance and Theater.
