The Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), through the Group of Interdisciplinary Studies, Discursive Practices and Politics of Bodies (CORPOLÍTICA), of the Postgraduate Program in Media Studies (PPgEM), will launch this Monday, 5th, at 7pm, the book “Foucault in California”, based on Simeon Wade's accounts of his experience and friendship with the French philosopher, Michel Foucault.
The event will be broadcast online via Google Meet at the link (https://meet.google.com/ehr-qntu-yqp?pli=1). The book was organized by researchers Nilton Milanez, João Kogawa and Guilherme Figueira-Borges. The work is composed of 10 articles that reflect on the body, the philosopher's experiences with drugs in the valley of death and Foucault's philosophical trajectory.
The launch is open to the general public and the book is being sold on the Amazon website. The book “Foucault in California” addresses issues such as liberalism, body, confession, desubjectivation, emotion and madness, related to Foucault's experience with drugs (which has since redirected his research), during his visit to California in 1975, in order to speak at the University of Berkeley, forming a fruitful friendship with Simeon Wade, who was a professor at the Claremont Graduate School.
