The Studio of the Art and Culture Center (NAC), at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), opens eight classes for activities such as painting, drawing, watercolor, engraving and texturing. The courses aim to promote activities related to basic education for children, teenagers and those aged 16 and over. The practice also functions as an internship field for students studying a degree in Visual Arts. Registration takes place via Sigaa.
According to professor Bettina Rupp, responsible for the action, "People associate artistic practice with the possibility of expressing themselves, through the use of images drawn, painted or made in other languages, their ideas, sensations, anxieties, desires, memories and experiences. But art goes beyond that, it also defines what we call the spirit of the time: thoughts, concepts and aesthetic manifestations associated with a historical period."
Deart's teacher mentioned that the courses help participants develop fine psychomotricity, the way we use our arms, hands and fingers, notions of proportion and perspective, spatial vision, imagination and creativity. And, as if all this were not enough, drawing also develops memory, perceptions of the eye and how to translate what is observed into a specific language, such as drawing with graphite.
"There are those who use art as therapy, as it is a moment that the person has all to themselves and that provides high concentration on a single activity. It is important to disconnect from the outside world and feel the pleasure of producing something for yourself and, in this sense, it is interesting to exercise visual thinking through the challenge that art poses to us, translating what we see around us into a new language. In fact, it is not enough to just translate, it is also necessary that the result of the process is interesting or makes sense to whoever is carrying out the work", says Rupp.
