UFRN promotes seminar entitled: “Urban Regimes and Metropolitan Governance”

The opening of the event “Urban Regimes and Metropolitan Governance”, on March 29th, starting at 8:30 am, in the UFRN Rectory Auditorium, will be attended by Portuguese Geographer João Ferrão, coordinating researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon and coordinator of the “Environment, Territory and Society” Research Group and the Council of Observatories of the ICS-UL.
With an atmosphere of debate, the event aims to illuminate some points on the current Brazilian urban agenda, thus considering the different forms of management and implementation of socio-spatial practices (public and private).
Registration will take place at the event location. Certificates will be issued by the Sigaa system.

João Ferrão
He was President of APDR – Portuguese Association for Regional Development (1987-1990), consultant to the OECD (Rural Development Programme, 1993), Secretary of State for Spatial and Cities Planning (2005-9) and Member of the Scientific Council for Social Sciences and Humanities of the Foundation for Science and Technology (2010-13).
He coordinated several international research projects and networks, namely within the scope of several Framework Programs of the European Commission and the European Science Foundation, and public policy evaluation studies for the Portuguese Government and the European Commission.
He has published, individually or in collaboration, dozens of articles in national and foreign magazines and several books on topics related to geography, spatial planning and local and regional development policies.
He is pro-rector of the University of Lisbon for society and local communities and representative of the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities at CNADS (National Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development).
