Held since 1986 in Natal, Bloomsday – an event that celebrates Irish literature and culture – will have programming organized by professors Ana Canan and Marcelo Amorim, from the Research Group on Irish Studies at UFRN, from the 12th to the 14th of June, starting at 9am, in auditorium “D” of the CCHLA, at UFRN. The event is free and registration is done on site by signing up on the attendance list. A minimum attendance of 75% will entitle you to a certificate
The opening lecture, entitled “His Veritable Gospel: Sebastian Barry’s Literary Sources in The Secret Scripture”, is given by Prof. Bruce Stewart, followed by the presentation of the short stories “Two Gallants”, “A Little Cloud” and “Clay”, by James Joyce, by students from the DLLEM English Language course. On June 13th, Prof. Lauro Meller will give the talk “50 years of Sgt Pepper (1967-2017)” and the students will present the short stories “A Painful Case”, “A Mother” and “Grace”. The event will also feature, on the third morning, a dramatic reading of the play “Translations”, by Brian Friel, with the participation of UFERSA students. The closing of Bloomsday will be with a musical performance by Cheyenne Pritchard, English language teaching assistant through Fulbright/Capes. The book Bloomsday Natal 30 anos is also planned to be released, with contributions from the previous year's presentations.
