UFRN welcomes renowned researcher in Ancient Philosophy

Between the 11th and 12th of December, the Philosophy department and the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy at UFRN organize the visit of the researcher in Ancient Philosophy, Gabriel Xavier, from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) to our institution.
During his visit, the researcher will teach a course and a conference with the theme “The problem of the priority of substance in Aristotle”.  Furthermore, the professor will share the main contributions of his award-winning thesis, entitled “Tis he ousia (what is the substance: the problem of substance from the last aporia of beta in Aristotle's Metaphysics)”, which received the prestigious 2018 National Association of Postgraduate Studies in Philosophy (ANPOF) Award.
According to the organizers, this event is a unique opportunity for students, teachers and those interested in ancient philosophy to deepen their knowledge and participate in central discussions on the topic. Professor Gabriel Xavier has a degree in International Relations from the University of Vale do Itajaí (2010), a degree in Philosophy from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2010), a master's degree (2013) and a doctorate (2017) in Philosophy with a concentration in Ontology from the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Federal University of Ouro Preto, working mainly in the History of Ancient Philosophy, especially the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle.
