Amplifying female voices in the field of geography is the objective of the round table Brazilian geography in the memory of women geographers, which will be held on February 4th, at 3pm. The event will take place in the auditorium of the Department of Geography, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN (DGEO/CCHLA), and registrations will be made at the time and place of the action.
The round table, which will run until 7pm, will be attended by three geography researchers, who will debate the history of geographic thought in Brazil and around the world. The teachers are Rosa Ester Rossini, from the University of São Paulo (USP/São Paulo), Beatriz Ribeiro Soares and Vera Lúcia Salazar Pessoa, both from the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU/Minas Gerais).
According to Francisco Fransualdo de Azevedo, coordinator of the event and professor at DGEO, all teachers participated in important moments in the construction of geographic science in Brazil, such as the creation of research funding programs such as the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (Pibic) and the Tutorial Education Program (PET).
“The importance is this: to publicize the history of this science that is so relevant in Brazil, to the point of having more than 100 undergraduate courses spread throughout the country, in addition to 85 master’s courses and more than 40 doctoral courses”, says the professor.
