Mergulho reading club promotes book-report debate

Debating reportage books produced by journalists is the objective of the Mergulho reading club, from the Department of Social Communication, linked to the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts at UFRN (Decom/CCHLA). After three meetings in the 2024.2 semester, the group will return in 2025.1.
The club was created by Janaina Dias Barcelos, a professor at Decom, who also coordinates the action. The teacher was inspired by her own love for reporting books and the desire for more people to read these works. The first meeting took place on October 7th last year to present the project. Then, on November 11th and January 13th, the book Rota 66 – The story of the police that kills, by Caco Barcellos, was discussed. Ten people participated in the meetings.
“Sharing reading experiences is important to broaden our world view, increase our enjoyment of reading, allow socialization among members and help in carrying out a more qualitative reading and encourage the search for other works”, declares Janaina. According to the teacher, the name Mergulho was chosen because the club is an invitation to delve into the universe of the works discussed.
The action has already been approved for the 2025.1 semester, and the schedule will still be discussed, as well as the works that will be read. Everyone can participate, whether they are UFRN students or not. For more information about the project, just access the Mergulho club's Instagram.
