The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) will hold, on the 6th and 7th of May, the 2nd Colloquium “Mothers and Children: Stories that never end”. The event takes place from 3pm to 9:30pm, in Auditorium D of the Center for Human Sciences, Letters and Arts (CCHLA), with registration made by Sigaa.
The purpose of the meeting is to present an alternative to the celebration of Mother's Day, promoting a discussion about motherhood in the university space from an intersectional, anti-capitalist and sustainable feminist perspective. The event addresses issues related to the permanence of women, mothers and pregnant women at university, in addition to the challenges faced by women and dissent in the academic and social environment.
According to the organization, women and dissenters, as mothers and pregnant women, are part of the body of students, teachers and employees at universities, but are often neglected and face obstacles similar to those in everyday life. The colloquium seeks to increase visibility of these experiences and promote collective debate.
The meeting continues the first edition, held in 2024, and is part of a biennial project. The initiative is conceived and mediated by Bravas – Brigada de Autoras e Críticas Feministas, with the aim of reflecting on the place of mothers in universities, in art, at work and in social and political life.
The event is organized by the Department of History (DEHIS), the research group MATIZES – Virtual Arts Research Group, and BRAVAS.
The program includes, on May 6th, at 3pm, a cine-debate in Auditorium D of CCHLA. At 6:30 pm, Round Table 1 will take place, with the theme “Art and motherhood”, with the participation of Monize Moura (Actress – DEART – UFRN), Ana Paola Ottoni (Curator – PPGAV – UFMG) and Clarissa Torres (Visual artist – PPGAV – UFRN).
On May 7th, at 3pm, a writing workshop for mothers and children will be held, with 10 places, also in Auditorium D. At 6:30pm, Round Table 2 will take place, with the theme “Motherhood in academia, work and politics”, with the participation of Estrela Santos (Visual artist – Art-educator), Bruna Rhanelly Torres da Silva (Journalist – Researcher) and Maria José da Conceição Souza Vidal (UERN).
The target audience includes students of History, Arts and related areas, mothers and children, pregnant women and those interested in discussing women's intellectual and creative production, as well as topics related to the feminist perspective and the expansion of debates outside hegemonic cultural circuits.
