On December 19th, at 10 am, the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) will host the lecture “Contemporary slavery and the perverse production of space in Brazil (21st century)”, the result of a partnership between two research groups dedicated to the study of territorial formation and social movements in the country.
The event is promoted by GEOFORM – Geography and Territorial Formation of Brazil (UFRN), coordinated by Prof. Dr. Hugo Arruda de Morais, from the Department of Geography of Natal, in collaboration with the MSEU – Social Movements and Urban Space (UFPE), under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Cláudio Jorge Moura de Castilho, from the Department of Geographical Sciences.
The lecture proposes a debate on the current expressions of slave labor and its effects on the production of contemporary Brazilian space. The objective is to reflect on how contemporary slavery acts in the dynamics of producing perversities that mark the spatial reality in Brazil in the 21st century.
The program will feature a presentation by Prof. Dr. Hugo Arruda de Morais (UFRN), as well as two debaters: environmental engineer Jorge Ferreira Lima Neto, a doctoral student at PRODEMA, and Geography professor Diogo Santos de Santana, a master's student at the same program. The table will be coordinated by Profa. Dr. Diana Carolina Gómez Bautista (UPE).
The meeting will be held in the Manuel Correia de Andrade Auditorium, on the 3rd floor of CFCH/UFPE.
