Lecture on Alice Guy highlights female pioneering in cinema

Next Thursday, October 10th, at 2pm, Auditorium D of UFRN will host the lecture “Alice Guy: Female pioneering and the emergence of cinema”, led by researcher Cecília Cortez (PPGAU-CT-UFRN). The event is part of the research project “Critical and creative experiences in feminist writing” and is organized by the study group BRAVAS – Brigade of feminist writers and critics.
Cecília Cortez will present an analysis of the work of Alice Guy, one of the first filmmakers in history, who revolutionized cinematographic techniques and narratives at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. The lecture will continue the work of the BRAVAS group, which since 2022 has been critically investigating the production of women in literature and cinema, challenging traditional representations and proposing a new reading of female images.
The presentation seeks to explore the trajectory of Alice Guy and the work of documentary filmmaker Pamela Green, in addition to discussing the barriers faced by women in cinema. The event aims not only to celebrate Guy's figure, but also to encourage a debate about new discoveries and research that seek to keep the history and role of women in the arts alive.
Participation is free and open to the public, registrations must be made via SIGAA.
