Exhibition shows color theory in practice

The Department of Arts (Deart/UFRN) is promoting, until this Thursday, December 5th, the exhibition Abstractions of Color. The exhibition takes place from 9am to 8:30pm, in the unit's Laboratory Gallery, located on the UFRN Central Campus. The exhibition presents painting works carried out by students of the curricular component Color Theory, of the Visual Arts course. In total, more than 130 works prepared by 19 students are being presented.
The key point of the exhibition emerged from the practice of three series of exercises carried out in the classroom. The themes studied were the color circle involving abstract shapes and the approach to the concept of seven contrasts, proposed by the Swiss artist Johannes Itten. The theory concerns notions of light and dark, hues, complementary colors, saturation, warm and cold colors, quantity of colors and simultaneous contrast. The starting point for the compositions were the primary colors yellow, blue and red, plus black and white.
The exercise was proposed by Deart teacher Bettina Rupp. The works were made using acrylic and gouache techniques. The exhibition also includes two large-format collective paintings created by students in the 2023.2 semester.
The exhibition has the support of the Dean of Extension (Proex/UFRN) and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (Prograd/UFRN).
